Project 366 Day 120: April 29, 2012

Today was a great cooking day at my house. After running some errands with PJ, I made hummus in the food processor and it came out great. It was not exactly photo-worthy, because hummus is not exactly a pretty food. :)

For dinner, we made Pad Thai, and it came out great. I bought the kit from Target that gives you the noodles and the sauce, and we added chicken, shrimp, lettuce, bean sprouts, peanuts, cilantro and lime wedges. It was very pretty, and it was delicious - definitely something we will be making again!

Project 366 Day 119: April 28, 2012

Today Mr. Jack came to visit again while his mom had a hair appointment. I finally gave him the hippo watering can I bought him a while back, and he l o v e d it. He spotted it right when he arrived and got very excited, and when he was a little crabby at the end, my parents made him laugh with it. It always feels like a success when you can make a kid that excited for only $1!

I got the idea to get him a watering can from when Jamie (John's sister) went to visit him and took pictures of him playing with the watering can in the garden. When I saw this hippo in the dollar bins at Target, I knew Jack would love it.

It was a very nice, relaxing, quiet day at home. Tomorrow will probably be a grocery shopping and cooking day, so expect to see some weekend cooking pics here tomorrow!

Project 366 Day 118: April 27, 2012

I just realized that this Project 366 is about 50% things I do and 50% things I see, for when the things I do are just too boring to photograph. Today falls into the latter category.

I spotted these lilacs at the University of Hartford near the Gengras Student Union on the way to lunch today, and had to go back as I was leaving for the day to take a photo. I'm actually kind of surprised they came out, because it was very windy at the time!

Project 366 Day 117: April 26, 2012

Lorelle and Lisa and I went to Sakura Gardens in West Hartford for lunch today. It's a sushi/buffet place, with great sushi and cool decorations. I took a lot of pictures of the decorations, but I thought this one was the coolest - I just kept coming back to it.

Sakura Gardens is the kind of place I'd go back to again, but I don't know who I'd go with - I don't think most of my family would be fans!

Project 366 Day 116: April 25, 2012

Today was one of those days where the weather made no sense. It was really sunny and cloudy and raining all at the same time, and it flipped back and forth between being really cold and kind of warm. Since we had 80-90 degree weather recently, I can't tell if this is just normal for the time of year or if it's unusual.

By the way, this is my house.

Project 366 Day 115: April 24, 2012

I'm getting bad at posting pics on the day I take them. This isn't a good sign!

Anyway, Maggie voted in the Republican primary yesterday. Yes, she is a registered Republican. No, I don't know why she chose to register as a Republican.

Anyway, it was her first time voting. I took her to the fire station to vote, and the volunteers seemed to be a little surprised to see her. I'm guessing they don't see too many 18-year-old Republicans. But she did her civic duty and is looking forward to voting in the Presidential Election.

I took this photo outside because (a) she didn't want to be photographed with other people around, and (b) I don't know if you're actually allowed to take photos at the voting booths.

Project 366 Day 114: April 23, 2012

I should have taken some picture involving all my Cervantes stuff for International Book Day (which happens to be the day both Cervantes and Shakespeare, as well as a number of other famous authors, died), but I didn't think of it until it was too late. Instead, I took a picture of this antique pedal tractor that my dad bought at an auction, which he will restore for a friend of his. Hey, it's definitely cooler than anything else I did today on this grey Monday: did you want a picture of the PowerPoint documentation I've been working on?

Project 366 Day 113: April 22, 2012

I was going to take a photo of one of the many things I did today (visit my friend's bakery, baked cookies, went to the post office to mail packages for my friends' birthdays), but I couldn't resist posting this adorable photo.

This is my brother's dog, Daisy. She's an English bulldog and is about 3 months old. My brother takes her everywhere, and she loves coming to visit and playing with Roxie's toys! (She doesn't play with Roxie, though, as Roxie is a little too old and grumpy to handle puppies!) I had been trying to get a photo of her forever, when all of a sudden she stopped and posed for me. So cute!

Project 366 Day 112: April 21, 2012

Bet you didn't expect another photo so quickly...

My dad came back from China tonight, and he brought me a bear from the Hard Rock Cafe in Beijing. I started collecting the Hard Rock Cafe bears in Madrid in 2008 - I think they're cool because I've always liked teddy bears and they're dressed in a way that represents the city where they're located.

This is my seventh bear, and he's dressed in some kind of army outfit. My other bears are from Madrid (matador), San Francisco (Alcatraz uniform), London (palace guard), St. Louis (old-fashioned pilot), Foxwoods (Fox costume) and New York (Statue of Liberty). I tried to get one from the Washington DC Hard Rock, but they didn't have the city bears there. Next time, I guess...

Now this guy just needs a name.

Project 366 Day 111: April 20, 2012

A lot of people are surprised to find out that I used to listen to Phish (and still like them), mostly since I don't live the kind of lifestyle of a person who listens to Phish. But given today's date, for some reason it felt appropriate to listen to them again...

Project 366 Day 110: April 19, 2012

Yes, I did take a picture yesterday!

On my way out of work, I saw this tree out a door I don't usually go out, and it was so lovely I had to go out of my way to take a pic. I wish I knew what kind of tree it was.

Project 366 Day 109: April 18, 2012

Today was not exactly a noteworthy day, but it improved tremendously when I came home and saw two different surprises in the mail from my friends. On the left is a postcard from Corwin from the Alps, and on the right is my birthday gift from Chrissie.

Unexpected surprises are always the best kind of mail. :)

Project 366 Day 108: April 17, 2012

I went back to work today. I should have taken a photo of the great workshop we had today, but I would have felt awkward doing that. So I will take a photo of something I wanted to share yesterday - these cute birdies I bought at Target.

Project 366 Day 107: April 16, 2012

I didn't make it back to work just yet today. But I did make a quick stop at Target (I needed more Robitussin). While I was there, I bought this watering can, among other things.

In case you couldn't tell, it's shaped like a hippo. And I thought she should wear a daffodil hat.

I was going to take a photo of our first trip out to Dairy Cream for the season, but everyone else seemed to have that idea today...the line was all the way around the place! So we postponed the first trip and will probably go tomorrow.

Project 366 Day 106: April 15, 2012

Happy Tax Day! I finished my taxes a few weeks ago, but that's not exactly photo-worthy, so it's not the subject of my photo today.

I was so discouraged at the beginning of the year when I saw how my pictures were coming out so grey. I should have realized that by the time Spring came around, I'd get to add nicer colors to the mix. This is a crabapple tree in our front yard.

I'm feeling much better today - not perfect, but back up and running. Back to work tomorrow...

Project 366 Day 105: April 14, 2012

You can't really see it from this picture, but a bird built a nest in the wreath on our front door, and there are a couple of eggs in it. We can't really use the front door until the birds hatch, which will certainly be tricky.

I didn't really have a chance to get a better picture of this, since the mother bird is very protective and it's kind of high up...but I hope I'll have pics of the baby birds later on!

Project 366 Day 104: April 13, 2012

This is the last day I plan on phoning it in for a while, I promise.

I'm feeling a lot better today, but it's barely 9 pm on a Friday night and I am thinking of calling it a night. It was such a crappy week, and I think I need to catch up on all the sleep I lost over the past few nights.

Project 366 Day 103: April 12, 2012

Y'all are lucky I managed to post something today. I was home sick again today, and it was worse than yesterday. I'll spare you the gory details.

This is all I've been able to eat today, and it definitely helps. Sorry for not posting anything more interesting, but I was just feeling so lousy that I couldn't manage to put much thought into it...

Project 366 Day 102: April 11, 2012

I'm home sick today. I feel awful. My mom caught some awful flu thing from work, and I caught it from her. Trust me, you want to stay away.

This is why I am, quite literally, phoning it in today. (Google it if you don't know what it means.) Hopefully I am back up and running tomorrow.

Project 366 Day 101: April 10, 2012

I have become rather addicted to the iPod/iPad game "DrawSomething." It is a little bit like Pictionary: you draw something and send it to someone to guess and vice versa. I started out on the iPod, but had to download it on the iPad to get more drawing space!

Here I am guessing Mary's drawing: "mustard." I've drawn some pretty elaborate clues on here, but I never remember to take a screenshot...

Project 366 Day 100: April 9, 2012

I wish I had something more glamorous for Day 100, and I wish I could say that I saw these rocks somewhere glamorous, but no, I just saw these in the parking lot on the way out of work today. I thought they would look cool in a photo.

I can't figure out why this photo was over 3MB. Is it because of the macro?

Project 366 Day 99: April 8, 2012

I bet you didn't expect a picture like this for Easter Sunday. Well, maybe some of you did. (Hi Pat!)

Not only was it Easter today, but it was also my grandfather's 93rd birthday. If I figured it out right, it was the third time in his lifetime that Easter has fallen on his birthday: before today, it happened in 2007, and before that, 1928.*

We celebrated in the way Poppas likes best for both Easter and his birthday: we all went to mass and had the usual big family dinner, and he got to watch the Master's tournament on top of all that. So I think it was a pretty good day for him.

Here he is blowing out the candles on his birthday cake, which is the bunny cake that my mother always makes for Easter.

Happy Easter and Happy Birthday Poppas! Hope everyone had a great day. :)

*Fun fact: I think I am the only other person in my family who has had Easter fall on their birthday. It has happened once for me, in 1989, and won't happen again until my 82nd birthday.

Project 366 Day 98: April 7, 2012

Let me tell you a little story about my brother, Kevin.

For a while now he had been saying that he wanted to get an English bulldog, that he wanted to name him Spike and that he wanted to get him one of those collars with spikes on it so he looked all tough. Recently, when he moved into his new apartment, he started getting serious about looking for a bulldog. He finds a breeder, and he and his girlfriend Mary head to New York to pick out a dog.

That night, we get a call from him after he's been to buy the dog. He bought one...but it's a girl, and he named it Daisy. He says that the girl had a much nicer personality than the boy one. And now, instead of studded collars and all that, he's buying her pink girly things. Talk about a change of pace!

I didn't intend for this to be my picture of the day, but he stopped by this evening as Jack was leaving, so we had to get this picture of the three of them, with Daisy all ready for Easter. I had planned to do a lot of baking, but that ended up taking a backseat today...

Project 366 Day 97: April 6, 2012

I can't stand Easter. The only thing I like about it is dying Easter eggs, which we do on Good Friday. Ever year I try to do some the way I've always done them since I was little (coloring flowers and sticking stickers on them), and I try to do some that are interesting or intricate in some way. We each did a few eggs, and this is the one of mine I like best.

Project 366 Day 96: April 5, 2012

A busy day at work today. This morning, Lisa and I worked on creating some documentation for instructors who use SMARTboards, which means we got to play with the SMARTboards for a while. I took some pictures to help us write the handouts, so I decided to make one of them my photo of the day.

Project 366 Day 95: April 4, 2012

Project 366 Day 95: April 4, 2012, originally uploaded by Kait W..
More flowers...this time at the University of Hartford. Lisa and I had a walk around campus today and saw these outside of the Hartt School. The campus looks very nice this time of year with all the trees in bloom!

Addendum:  My dad says that these magnolias are American, while the ones we have at home are French.

Project 366 Day 94: April 3, 2012

For the past few weeks, the weather has been beautiful - almost like summer. But in typical Connecticut fashion, it snowed this weekend. So some of the flowers that were in bloom last week aren't looking so hot now.

The rhododendrons, however, are still looking pretty good. They must have just bloomed recently, because I didn't notice them until today...

Not much to report otherwise - just the usual day at work.

PS - How awesome is Google Image Search? I just dragged and dropped this picture into the search to find similar pictures, which is how I figured out it was a rhododendron.

Project 366 Day 93: April 2, 2012

The chairs (two of 'em) finally arrived today! They are very pretty and comfortable, although a teeny bit taller than I would have liked.

I feel like I have everything I need in my room now, and that I finally have the room the way I like it. :)

Project 366 Day 92: April 1, 2012

I forgot to post yesterday, but I did not forget to take a picture yesterday!

Maggie and I went to the store for various baking things when I saw these pink hydrangeas. I had wanted to buy hydrangeas earlier this week (I saw some purple ones I liked), but I had to buy these because I had never seen pink ones before. I hope they plant and come back!
