Hello!

Greetings and salutations to the person from St. Hugh's who Googles me using German Google. How did you come across my blog, and have we met before?

I'm not mad or annoyed or creeped out at all, I'm just very curious. I hope you are not creeped out by my knowing this - I have a Statcounter that gives me this information.

Hope to hear from you soon. If you don't want to post a comment publicly, feel free to email me or send me a Facebook message.

All best,
Kaitlin

200

When my youngest siblings were little, on the 100th day of the school year, they were always asked to bring in 100 of some item so they could get a little math lesson out of the whole event. Most kids bring in macaroni noodles, or coins, or cereal, or the like. One year, we were feeling rather ambitious and sent my brother Kevin into school with a photo album of 100 pictures of himself. It's rather impressive when you see all these interpretations of what 100 "looks like."

Here, on my 200th post, I have no clever visual display of what 200 looks like. I can only hope that you lovely people will stick around for the next 200 posts of cryptic rants, research notes, photos, sightseeing at Harry Potter locales, pointless memes, and random observations of how strange this little island can be. It's been great fun so far, and I continue to love this place every day I'm here.

More to come soon. I'm not feeling so hot lately, but I do have some random stories in the hopper that I plan on posting at some point.

Have a lovely day everyone -
Kaitlin

On bad ideas*

Could someone please explain:

When I'm completely sober and haven't eaten, I can barely touch kebab. But after having one two seven drinks and a formal hall dinner I can finish a whole chips and cheese with chicken. Why?????**

*Title stolen from Mark, with apologies. Although my post is on a completely different subject, so I guess it's OK.
**This is actually a rhetorical question. I'd rather not think about the answer. ;)

Tuesday Ten: A low-calorie alternative to Actual Content!

I've had some posts floating around in my head for a while, but no motivation to actually write them down lately. So I'll give you a Tuesday Ten, which is not unlike Scriv's Friday Random Ten, the main difference being that it's Tuesday.

I've been listening to a lot more music in English lately, which is a big change for me. I consider myself to be behind on the times in terms of English-language music, because I never listen to it, so I don't really know what's popular. But here's what I've been listening to lately:

1.) "These Words (I Love You, I Love You)" - Natasha Bedingfield
2.) "You Give Me Something" - James Morrison (iTunes free download of the week! Do it!)
3.) "July, July!" - The Decemberists
4.) "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" - Scissor Sisters
5.) "Smile" - Lily Allen
6.) "LA Song" - Beth Hart
7.) "Come on up to the House" - Tom Waits
8.) "Suddenly I See" - KT Tunstall
9.) "Little Bitty Pretty One" - Bobby Darin
10.) "Shackles (Praise You)" - Mary Mary

That is all. Back to work now.

Much love,
Me

Take this snow and shove(l) it

So, ummm, yeah. It's snowing today. Unlike many of my friends and colleagues, though, I really couldn't give a damn.

Don't get me wrong, it's lovely in pictures, like this one of the river right outside of our college. But frankly, having spent twenty-six winters in Connecticut, snow kinda lost its enchantment about twenty or so years ago. And I really lost interest about ten years ago, when I started driving.

I hate being cold. I hate winter recreational activities. I hate having to spend an hour defrosting and scraping off my car before I can use it. I hate gloves, layers, scarves, "bundling up," slush and ice. When I get old one day, I'll do what my grandparents always did and escape to Florida between about January and March.

So please forgive me today if I'm rather grumpy, if I don't want to go throw snowballs or go sledding or "look how pretty it is out there." I'd much rather make some tea, watch a DVD and quietly wait for this sludgy mess to go away.

Peace out yo -
Me
